Project Brief

More than just another onboarding app.

EOS Onboarding

Overview

EOS Onboarding (short for "Employee Onboarding Software") is a mobile app designed and prototyped as a group assignment during the course of my M.p.S in UX Design program at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Winter 2022. For this assignment, I lead the app's Information Architecture & Design System while sharing the roles of Project Manager and Wireframing + Prototype Designer. I also owned the profile creation user flow.

Problem

Many new hires need to onboard remotely post-COVID which poses many challenges since online onboarding is new and not a standardized process across many industries. This is a problem for new hires because poor onboarding experience leads to productivity and retaining issues.

Solution

Provide a supportive and customizable platform (product) for new hires AND managers that will support both employee groups beyond the initial onboarding process and create continuity throughout the organization. Based on finding from user interviews & project requirements stipulated by the instructor, this product will include the following features:

    • outlets for mutual communication between user groups
    • visual confirmation of one's own and other's completed & outstanding tasks
    • assistive features for users less comfortable with onboarding remotely
    • access to referential resources for initial
incremental, and continued growth and self-education
    • activity sharing in the form of an internal "social media"

The App

This is your Services section. This is a great place to give more information about the services you provide. You can write a general description of what your business offers then add more details below. This section can be adapted for your website.

You may choose to highlight other things like courses or programs, or to share special features about your business that you want to promote. Double click on the text box to edit the text and make it your own.

> Prototype

Embedded to the left is a Figma prototype for the Flow that I was responsible for, in addition to the deliverables below. This flow- limited to user settings & profile setup upon account creation- is part of several flows that made up the overall assignment for which this app was created.

Closing Thoughts

As this was a course assignment, the final step of our process was to present our work from ideation through to a live walkthrough of a partially developed prototype. The prototype itself can be found above and the final slide deck is available upon request.

More importantly, there were many lessons learned from this project as it was my first time working with a team of fellow designers and prototyping to this level of fidelity.

Specialization

Part of the goal of the course for which this project was assigned was to try out specialized role within the field of UX as opposed to a more Geneneralist role as our projects up to that point had required. For me, this opportunity was priceless as I helped solidify my interest in Information Architecture, Design Systems, and Accessibility.

Collaberation

Working within the tight constraints of a 5-week deadline meant quickly evaluating individual strengths & weeknesses in order to optimize each of our contributions and balance our joint effort to get things done. I find this experience helped me move past trying to do All The Things without asking for help. Asking for or needing help isn't a failure, but rather a strength and a necessity as a practicioner of UX.

Communication

This project was my first time not only functioning in the role of a Project Manager, but also sharing that role with another person. There were noteworthy pitfalls in communication that caused stumbling along the way, but I we all rose to the occasion & grew for the better as a result. We also used these learnings to empathize with communication needs for our target user groups.
